Christmas 2012
Finally caught up to Christmas! And it was only a month ago!
We were very excited to celebrate our first Christmas 'at home' this year. It was one of the more relaxing Christmas' we can remember in a long time. We hardly knew what to do with the extra days off and nowhere we needed to be!
Zoe enjoyed all the activities leading up to Christmas this year: searching for Holly our house elf every morning, reading all the Christmas books all day, making cookies every other day with Mommy, decorating the tree, and putting her ornaments on her Advent Tree from Grandpa. She was obsessed with Santa this year, but we missed out on ever actually seeing him, so she'll have to wait until next year.
Christmas day lasted 2 days this year as well. Zoe didn't really know what was going on this year until she went into the family room the morning of and saw all the presents and stockings filled. Next year, she'll be a pro and just getting thru December will be daunting enough! She was perfectly happy tearing through a present and thinking it was the best toy ever and playing with it for half an hour. Then curiosity would get the best of her and she would open another and find yet another best toy ever. She was also a big fan of helping Emma open her presents as well, and sometimes relieving her of said present.
We did miss seeing all our family and playing in the snow. We didn't miss the holiday travel and accompanying sickness!

Oh Christmas Tree
For this year's tree chopping, we tried out a new farm that is in the East Bay. It had lots and lots of really beautiful trees. The best part was almost all of them were the appropriate size, so there were no Griswald's to choose from. This made bringing the tree in and out of the house a bit easier.
Zoe had lots of fun running around the farm. She kept finding all the trees that were just her size and telling us we should get those. She had fun helping Mommy decorate when we got home. This year she loved the nativity set. It quickly became her dollhouse for most of December. Thankfully the sheep are baa'ing instead of barking.

Little Elves
Grammy continues her tradition of keeping our kids looking cute. Kate was doing a puppet show to keep attention and smiles. This was also the first year we had our own stockings hanging in our own home. Up until this year, our fireplace was always empty. (Thankfully Santa was always able to find us!)

Visiting Grandma Mary
Back in November, Kate and Emma made a trip to Indiana to visit her Grandma Mary. Along the way, Emma also got to meet Uncle Phil, Uncle Bret, Evan, Grace, and GG Shirley. It was a super quick visit (made even quicker by some plane gymnastics that left Mommy, Grammy, and Emma deplaning on the tarmac and stuck in Denver overnight).
It was sad not to be part of Emma's first trip, but Daddy and Zoe had fun back at home holding down the fort. Both survived relatively unscathed with no 911 calls. I'd call that a success!

Emma's First Thanksgiving
I finally figured out how we managed to max out our picasa / blog picture storage so quickly (8MB pictures aren't the way to go). So after going back and re-uploading and updating all the posts, I think we're ready to rock again and can actually upload new pictures. Hence, Thanksgiving in January.
Emma's first Thanksgiving might be one of Daddy's favorites. After Uncle Mark and Aunt Amy had to back out because of one of their bi-weekly epidemics, we were left to fend for ourselves. That meant, Ham!, homemade rolls!, and Shaffer candy potatoes! No turkey will probably go down as one of Daddy's all-time best Thanksgiving victories!
It was a little sad not to see any family over the holiday, especially after last year's Santa Barbara treat, but it was fun to spend the day out in our yard. It was a beautiful California fall day, which meant we were hanging around in flip-flops. We were able to take some pictures in the yard before Zoe was off to play in the dirt. Look at all those baby blues!!

Emma's 6 Months
Emma passed the 6 month mark a couple days ago. She's showing more and more of her personality each day. She loves to roly-poly all over the floor and has more than likely used this method of transportation in place of crawling. Our pediatrician thinks she'll go straight from this to pulling up on things. Her big sister gets the biggest smiles of everyone and she loves to get poked, pushed, pinched, smacked, and sat on by Zoe in addition to all the hugs, snuggles, and kisses heaped on her by her sister. Over the holidays, she did learn that Daddy being home all day means there is always one pair of arms available to hold her as well.
It's amazing to look back at these past 6 months in comparison to the first 6 months with Zoe. Things that were hard with Zoe (sleeping, fussing) seem easy with Emma and things that were easy with Zoe (eating, paying attention to her) seem harder with Emma. Daddy and Zoe bonded much faster and easier than Daddy and Emma, and vice versa for Mommy and the girls. Raising a newborn during the terrible 2's isn't at the top of the wish list either. But all the constant fears and concern over each little micro-phase they go through doesn't seem to be as stressful as with Zoe. And they both do love their snuggles, sleepsacks, and feet.
Some final 6 month stat comparisons:
Zoe: 16lbs, 15.5oz, 26.5", 4 teeth
Emma: 12lbs, 15oz, 26.5", working on teeth (any day now)
So, as you can see, Emma very well may be wearing her 6-9 month clothes during her first birthday. She is definitely our little peanut.
And as a reward for reading through all that, here are some 6 month pictures we took in a dress from Studio Aunt Nats.
